Villa Terrasse

History

The history of the original Vila Terrasse dates back to the beginning of the second half of the last century, and like the city of Košice, it reflects its transformations in its almost 60-year history. Where peace and the scent of lavender breathe today, there was a military training ground until the end of the 19th century. With the development of the city, this area began to change, and in the 1960s, the largest Košice housing estate, Terasa, grew here. On its edge, embraced by the newly created forest park, a district of family houses was formed.

The villa project began to be implemented on a bare plain in 1968 and began its history as a family house built in the typical style of building socialism. 30 years later, a major reconstruction in the Mediterranean style began, which continues to this day. The original building was given an extension and the first annexes, which made it possible to establish a small guest house with a terrace with a beautiful view of the south of Košice, the Slanské vrchy mountains and the nearby Hungarian land in part of the Villa. Subsequently, the construction of a large entrance hall with a bar, reception and another room for guests was carried out. Next to the annex, a garden was created, which was also open to non-accommodated guests in the summer months, coming for good beer and culinary specialties of cold cuisine. In the next stage, part of the southwest wing was demolished, which was replaced by an apartment with a separate entrance, with interiors in the Victorian style, and above it a studio, which expanded the part serving the owners and residents of the villa.

Currently, the implementation of another garden naturally connected to the forest park is being prepared, with an entrance from the newly built greenhouse and a swimming pool in the Provencal style. And maybe that won’t be the end of the continuous 30 years of slow work, as Vila Terrasse is not just a building, but a living organism that, as visitors often say, has its soul and unrepeatable atmosphere.
